Pathway
Art
I decided actually about two weeks ago (Beginning of August, 2015) to make my pathway. I had taken some form of art at one point of another at the schools i've attended but I never thought to make it a pathway here at LHS. Which is weird because my pathway was going to be sports medicine and I am not heavily involved in sports or medicine...Art has always been a fun hobby of mine and I have always been pretty artistic and pro-expression and other outlets of self-expression so I had no problem switching to art.
Job Reflective Narrative
When I job shadowed “mimicking birds” March 3rd, I went to the gig and watched them set up. I then watched interviewed them an hour before their gig began, which was around 7 PM. The gig was in Hanford. I chose to job shadow these guys because I not only hadn’t done my job shadow, but I wanted to do someone that was very close to my dream career, which is a paid musician.
They did not do much throughout the day. They simply rehearsed and mentally prepared for the gig. They then came out to the venue around 6 and set up. I watched them run back and forth from their van unloading equipment. They got ready for their opening act which was a group called ‘The New Dustbowl’. I got there and watched them unload and had small talk with them as they were pretty busy I wanted to be like a shadow and just pretend I wasn’t there. When they finished setting up I sat with the lead of the group Nate Lacy and asked him a few questions before the gig started. We ate pizza and talked. We then noticed people started to crowd the venue so we got up and shook hands as I wished him luck. He proceeded to go on stage and check everything before the opening act performed. I learned a lot from this wonderful and informative experience. I learned that I love small pubs and venue gigs. I love the rawness, intimacy, and vulnerability of the gig. However, the vulnerability made me a little worried because a girl spilled her drink on a speaker and it started glitching and the band had to just improvise and continue. Maybe a little too vulnerable but it’s fine. I love the van concept as well as the hipsterish vibe the group and location were giving me. It was just genuine and enjoyable. The atmosphere was very young and I loved it. I also loved being able to sit with the main singer and acoustic guitarist and just talk like normal people. This experience has made me want to pursue music even more now. It’s just so interesting and amazing seeing these kinds of things live. Seeing people who are passionate about something I am also passionate about was very new to me. I overall had an amazing time and wish to do this or something like this again. |
